My story

Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Steve and I have a lot of student loan debt. As of 2012 (when I finally got serious about paying them) I had $187,000. How you ask? I went to a private, out-of-state college and borrowed very, very irresponsibly. It sucks pretty bad, but what’s more important is what I’m doing about it.

In 2012 I joined the Army National Guard. For an 8 year commitment the Guard pays $50,000 of my federal loan debt. In addition to that, I work one full-time job, drill once a month and work a part-time job (about 15 hours a week). I also budget and save money like a crazy person.

What is the primary purpose of this blog?
To document, share, show, discuss and improve my strategies of paying $187,000 of student loan debt with the personal finance community.

What will I post about?

• The Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) offered by the Army National Guard
• Debt repayment strategies
• Budgeting strategies
• Motivational articles, mindset, quotes and information
• Doing more with less
• Fitness & nutrition on a budget
• Entertainment on a budget
